TPMS
TPMS repairs and replacements
Every new car sold here since November 2014 has tyre pressure monitoring, and the sensors sat inside the wheels don't last forever. We diagnose the warning light, rebuild or replace the sensors and programme them to your vehicle - in the same visit as the tyres.

Warning light diagnosis
The light tells you something is wrong, not what. We read every sensor for pressure, temperature and battery life, so you know whether it's a slow puncture, a dead sensor or a system that only needs relearning.

Service kits and rebuilds
Plenty of sensors that look faulty just need a new service kit - valve core, seal, nut and cap. We fit fresh kits whenever a tyre comes off a TPMS wheel, so the valve doesn't start weeping a month later.

Replacement sensors
Sensor batteries are sealed in and last somewhere around five to ten years, so eventually the sensor itself has to go. We supply and programme new sensors to your vehicle - one wheel or a full set.

Relearn and reset
New or moved sensors are relearned to the car and the light checked off before you leave - including seasonal wheel swaps, where the car has a second set of sensors to pick up.
On cars first used from January 2012, a TPMS warning light is an MOT failure - so it's worth sorting before the test rather than after. What a sensor costs depends on what your vehicle takes, so give us the registration and we'll price it while you're on the phone.

How do I know which tyre size I need?

Which vehicles do you fit tyres for?
Cars, vans, 4x4s, motorhomes and caravans, including run-flat tyres. Van, motorhome and caravan tyres carry a load rating as well as a size - the C or CP after the rim size, and the load index after that - so give us the full marking off the sidewall and we will match it exactly rather than guess. Caravan tyres usually age out long before they wear out, because the van spends most of the year standing, so check the four-digit date code on the sidewall as well as the tread.
How much do new tyres cost?

Can I wait while the tyres are fitted?
Yes. Once the tyres are in, fitting is done on the spot, so you can wait for the car rather than leave it. Sizes we do not hold are usually in within a day, and we will book you in for when they arrive.
What is included when you fit a tyre?
Every tyre goes on with a new valve, is balanced properly and is torqued to the manufacturer's spec rather than run up with a gun. Where the car has tyre pressure sensors, they are removed and refitted carefully and re-checked before you drive away - sensors are easy to damage during fitting and expensive to replace.
Can a puncture be repaired?
Punctures are repaired where the damage falls within the safe repairable area - broadly, a clean puncture through the central tread rather than the shoulder or sidewall. Where a tyre is outside that, we will say so plainly and quote for a replacement rather than patch it and hope.
What is the legal minimum tread depth?
For cars and light vans it is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, all the way round the tyre. Grip in the wet falls away well before that, though, so it is worth replacing tyres before they get there - if you are not sure, send a photo of the tread or call in and we will tell you honestly whether they need doing.
When is the cheapest time to have the wheels refurbished?
When you are having new tyres fitted. If your wheels are kerbed or corroded, the tyres have to come off either way, and that is half the labour of a refurbishment already done. Ask when you book and Saxilby Tyres will quote for both together - refurbishment starts from £75 per wheel, and removal, refitting, new valves and balancing are included in it.
