Powder coating in Lincoln

Why powder, not paint
Powder is applied electrostatically as a dry finish, then oven-baked so it fuses into a single hard layer. That makes it far tougher than wet spray against stone chips, scuffs, weather and the salt that goes down on UK roads all winter - which is why it's the standard finish on everything from alloy wheels and bike frames to garden furniture and gates, rather than a cosmetic option.

In detail
What is powder coating, and why use it?
Powder coating is not a cosmetic upgrade on paint - it is a different process with a different result. The powder is applied dry and electrostatically, so it wraps evenly around edges and awkward shapes instead of running, and the oven then fuses it into one continuous layer bonded to the metal.
Why does the preparation matter so much?
Coating over old paint, rust or grease is what causes finishes to lift a year later, so nothing goes in the oven at Saxilby Tyres until it is back to clean bare metal. Parts are chemically stripped or blasted first, and anything that will not survive the heat - bearings, seals, plastics, stickers - comes off beforehand. It is unglamorous work, and it is the reason the finish lasts.
What can and cannot be powder coated?
If it is metal, fits in the oven and can take the heat, it can usually be coated: wheels, bike and motorbike frames, go-kart chassis, brackets, gates, railings, garden furniture and general fabrication. Cast iron, steel and aluminium are all fine. What we cannot do is anything that melts or is already assembled around parts that would be ruined - and we would rather tell you that on the phone than after you have driven over to Lincoln.
What finishes and colours are available?
Gloss, satin, matt, metallic and textured finishes are all available in almost any colour, including a match to an existing or factory finish. The wheel colours Saxilby Tyres coats most often are set out on the colours page, and anything outside that range can usually be ordered in against a RAL reference.
How much does powder coating cost?
Powder coating at Saxilby Tyres is quoted per job rather than off a price list, because parts vary so much in size and in how much preparation they need.
