Changing the colour of your alloy wheels
A colour change is done as part of a full refurbishment at Saxilby Tyres in Lincoln. Every wheel is stripped back to bare alloy before it is coated, so the new colour goes onto clean metal rather than over the old finish - nothing of the original shows through, and the new colour carries the same 1-year guarantee as any other solid-colour refurbishment.
Which alloy wheel colours are most popular?
The popular choices are the ones Saxilby Tyres keeps in stock: silvers, greys and anthracites, gloss and satin blacks, and bronzes for something bolder. The tiles above show the colours we coat most often, and anything outside them can usually be ordered in against a RAL reference.
Can you match my factory colour?
Yes. Factory silvers and greys are everyday work, and almost any manufacturer colour can be matched - which matters when only one or two wheels need doing and they have to sit alongside the rest of the set. Tell us the make, model and year, or bring a wheel in, and we will confirm the match before anything is coated.
Gloss, satin or matt - which finish should I choose?
Gloss is closest to how most wheels leave the factory and the easiest to keep clean. Satin and matt give a flatter, more modern look but are a little harder to keep looking fresh, and metallics add depth to greys and bronzes. If you cannot decide, call in at the Lincoln workshop and see the coated sample wheels side by side.
Can I have a two-tone or diamond-cut finish?
Yes. Wheels with a machined face can be re-cut on a lathe once the spokes are coated, so bright alloy sits against the colour of your choice - gloss black with a diamond-cut face is the classic pairing. The diamond cutting page explains how it is done and when a wheel can be re-cut.
Do I need to tell my insurer about a colour change?
It is worth a quick check. Some insurers count a change of wheel colour as a modification and some do not, and a phone call before the work is done saves any argument later.
